The West Orange Trail is a 19-mile paved rail-trail following Lake Apopka past the Winter Garden Historical Museum, offering walkers, runners, rollerbladers, bikers, and horseback riders beautiful scenic vistas. The Tibet-Butler Preserve offers 440 acres scenic natural flora and wildlife and is home to the Vera Carter Environmental Center.

After the end of the Seminole Wars in 1858, settlers, tourists, merchants, and farmers developed a one-square-mile town in what is now Windermere. Development continued through the early 1900’s, and in 1925, the town was officially incorporated. Today, Windermere takes pride in beautiful historic architecture that includes the Bumby House, the Armstrong Beggs Parramore home, and Town Hall.
Windermere is home to four public schools, Windermere Elementary, Keene’s Crossing Elementary, Sunset Park Elementary, and Gotha Middle School, all of which are part of Orange County School District. Olympia High School is located just beyond Windermere city limits. Additionally, there are several private school options in the area, including Windermere Preparatory School, the Crenshaw School, and Buena Vista Academy.
